US utility Salt River Project pilots centralized protection and control with SSC600
USA
Challenge
The challenges with past protection and control approaches included installing devices within harsh environments that reach extreme temperatures, a lack of flexibility in the distribution of signals, and a large amount of required labor (both now and during future maintenance and replacements).
Solution
SRP decided to implement a pilot project at one of their 69/12.47 kV substations. The system configuration comprises dedicated merging units and an SSC600 device.
Outcome
Able to meet new protection requirements and benefit from the latest developments in protection relay technology.
