ABB lowers energy use and costs for a community college’s data center in Ohio
Reduced energy usage by 53%, increased uptime to 100%, and lowered costs by cutting energy usage
United States
Challenge
Reduce the energy usage of the college’s data center and increase visibility to improve its data center operations.
Solution
Lakeland Community College chose ABB for its data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solution to develop an energy-efficient and LEED-certified data center with more space and configurable flexibility.
Outcome
The DCIM solution helped Lakeland lower energy use in its data center by 53% through timely analysis of cooling data. The increased operational visibility enabled them to efficiently arrange the data center's layout and improve its cooling configurations without sacrificing service uptime, and take advantage of emerging hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI), reducing the number of servers to be cooled. The data center was able to achieve Silver LEED certification and allowed for successful operations for the past decade.
