Challenge

Aluminium producer Novelis is future-proofing it's mill in Oswego, New York by replacing obsolete and outdated equipment to increase power capacity and reliability.

Solution

ABB will replace 3rd party drives and control system as part of this brownfield modernization project at its hot rolling mill.  New switchgears, transformers, medium voltage drives, medium voltage synchronous motors, motor control centers and auxiliary controls will all be integrated with the facility's existing non-ABB control system. 

Outcome

The retrofit project will improve availability, reliability, energy efficiency, and productivity, while cutting downtime and maintenance.
